As a chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., Beta Kappa Lambda is committed to promoting educational excellence and scholarship in the Charleston community, particularly among young African Americans since 1939. The B.K.L. Book Stipend Award will recognize the outstanding educational achievement and potential of four high school students in the Charleston area by awarding those individuals $500 Book Stipends to defray the cost of textbooks purchased during their first year of college. The Book Stipend Award is not to be used for personal or tuition expenses, only text-book expenditures.
